Record Scholarships Awarded
The Foundation for Fresno Unified Schools awarded an historic $ 400,000 in Fresno Unified Scholarships to 289 graduates from the Class of 2024 . An additional $ 24,000 in other scholarships was awarded , for a total of $ 424,000 to 292 graduates . This marks the largest sum in Fresno Unified history , made possible by philanthropic fundraising efforts of The Foundation for Fresno Unified Schools .
For the first time , $ 10,000 Amazon Scholarships were awarded to three exemplary students who are involved in their community , have ambitious goals and demonstrate a strong need for financial assistance to achieve their college dreams . Amazon ’ s contribution of $ 30,000 is the largest single donation for Fresno Unified scholarships . The three Amazon Scholars are Christian Delgado from Bullard High School , Kimmy Liu from Edison High School and Juan Diaz Montes from Sunnyside High School .

Juan Diaz Montes Sunnyside High School
Juan Diaz Montes , Sunnyside High School , will attend Fresno City College to take automotive classes to be a mechanic , perhaps opening his own business someday . He wants to be able to help his family financially , including two siblings who have autism . The scholarship will help Juan buy a car so he can have transportation to college .
Kimmy Liu Edison High School
Kimmy Liu , Edison High School , will attend Fresno State with the goal of being a mechanical engineer . She is interested in designing medical tools or a career related to improving the environment . During a visit to Edison during move-up day in eighth grade , she learned about Edison ’ s engineering pathway , which ended up being the perfect fit for Kimmy . The scholarship will be crucial to Kimmy ’ s college journey as her parents are Chinese immigrants who struggle financially .
Christian Delgado Bullard High School
Christian Delgado , Bullard High School , will attend Fresno City College initially with the goal of getting accepted to UCLA ’ s School of Theater , Film and Television . His passion for the field was ignited during an online theater class at Bullard during his freshman year when COVID restrictions were still in place . The Amazon Scholarship is crucial to helping Christian attain his goals as his family has been hit hard by medical bills for his father ’ s cancer treatment .
