“ I do love me some‘ 80s and‘ 90s. Sometimes I do fee l like a millennial myself,” Migu el said.

A couple of things stand out about Miguel Meza, a sixth grader at Yokomi Elementary School: He almost always has a sketch book in hand, and he loves the‘ 80s and‘ 90s.

This inquisitive, imaginative student represents Yokomi well, Principal Stephen Zoller said.
“ He personifies the idea that all students have unique gifts and talents. It is our job as teachers to help students find theirs,” Zoller said.
Miguel is a talented artist and wants to design toys as a career, with lots of ideas and designs in the works. Not surprisingly, one of the designs Miguel has been working on lately has an‘ 80s flair.

When he gets home from school, he draws“ the things I was planning to draw but couldn’ t because I had schoolwork.”
For him, drawing is not just a creative outlet.
“ Apparently, drawing can help you focus better,” Miguel said.
His teacher, Ilse Cortez, loves Miguel’ s passion for art, the new characters he creates and his talent for designing new toys.
