We sat down with the leader of the brand-new Foundation for Fresno Unified Schools .
How would you describe your leadership style ?
My leadership style is very much entrepreneurial and mission-driven . I am able to leverage both my business and academic experience to increase education access points for our most vulnerable students . Each and everyone on my team is equally passionate about ensuring our students are successful throughout their educational journey and beyond . This makes coming to work extremely worthwhile . My Gallup ’ s Strengths are Input , Ideation , Strategic , Learner , and Restorative .
What were some big themes in your personal and professional life ?
Fairness and justice . This comes from growing up in the segregated South and seeing the unfairness and injustice firsthand . It ’ s about respect for me . When people cross that line , it ’ s definitely not OK . I find that in spaces where there isn ’ t structure , I work to build structure and in spaces with too much structure , I push against the status quo .
What brings you joy ?
My niece brings me joy ! She is so fun and every time I think about her , I smile . I just love children . I am fascinated to see how their personalities start emerging at a young age and how they start building connections . They are so authentic , and they can feel the energy around them .
