What background do you have in safety and security services ? I have 32 years of experience in law enforcement and security management . I left the Memphis Police Department in 2010 to pursue other opportunities . After leaving law enforcement , I have held senior management positions with the Department of Justice , Churchill Downs , Raymond James , Rush Street Gaming and most recently , Tachi Palace Casino Resort .
Why did you decide to pursue school safety ? I decided to pursue school safety because my skill set and experience would be of value to the Fresno Unified School District . Every student should be able to learn in a safe environment , and teachers should be able to educate students in an environment where they feel safe .
So far , what do you like the most about your job ? I have enjoyed my interactions with students , faculty and staff . I appreciate how friendly everyone has been to me .
The district will spend $ 7.2 million in enhanced safety investments this year . Please describe these investments . I want to thank the board of trustees for the additional funding . The $ 7.2 million will fund hiring 68 additional campus safety assistants , additional security cameras , vaping sensor pilot ( eight schools ) and safe routes to school pilot ( 15 schools ). The Safety and Security Office has added four safety and security specialists and an additional safety and security manager .
What difference in safety do you think students will notice the most ? Students will see additional campus safety assistants on campus . Students will also see more cameras at their school and an increased presence of safety and security specialists supporting campus safety assistants and school administrators .
