About Andria : Andria Sepulveda ’ s motivation comes from her parents , who she says she owes everything to . They left Mexico when her mother was pregnant with her , fleeing violence after several family members were murdered , not because of their actions but because of mistaken identity or being in the wrong place at the wrong time . Her parents knew they had to keep Andria and her siblings from joining this list , as well as provide them with opportunities they never had themselves .

Andria ’ s parents ’ experiences made the importance of education crystal clear . Neither of them went to college , and Andria says they pull a double workload because of it . She hopes to one day be able to take care of herself as well as her family financially .

In the meantime , she ’ s already started helping others . During high school , she had a strong drive to look out for her fellow students . Andria saw herself in , and empathized with , the younger English language learners . She knew the pressure they were under to fit in and was passionate about mentoring them , both through the Global Student League and Peer Helpers , where she provided a sense of connection .

Andria strongly believes a community in which everyone feels welcome is necessary for growth and strives to make this a reality .
