For senior Jordan Clark , online school has helped him thrive .
Jordan is a student at eLearn Academy , Fresno Unified ’ s online school that has grown steadily since it opened in 2021 , providing another option for students .
Jordan loves it there .
“ There ’ s less distractions , I ’ m able to focus and I do better in my own space ,” Jordan said . “ eLearn has a bunch of good teachers . It ’ s a great place to be around .”
Jordan ’ s first year of high school was virtual because of the COVID lockdown . Once the lockdown lifted , he attended Patiño School of Entrepreneurship , and while he enjoyed it , he realized that he concentrated better on his schoolwork when he had been learning online .
eLearn Academy was a perfect alternative . The school has a staff of 73 with about 950 students in kindergarten through 12th grade . Housed in modular buildings on the McLane High School campus , eLearn continues to expand options for students academically with career technical education classes , dual enrollment through Fresno City College , and additional electives .
extremely caring and good at making sure students are doing well in all aspects of their lives .
He also loves being done with school by 1:20 p . m ., despite taking physics , statistics , English , psychology , economics and expository reading / writing . His favorite class at eLearn was a video production class he took last year from teacher Jeff Cook .
“ He made the class fun and entertaining ,” Jordan said .
The video skills he learned even led to being asked to film a friend ’ s wedding , and they loved the result .
Cook said Jordan is a hard-working student who is eager to learn .
“ Jordan is not only a good student but a polite young man who shows respect to teachers and classmates . I see Jordan going far in life , being a positive role model for others , and being successful in whatever he pursues ,” Cook said .
Jordan is soft-spoken and not one to talk about his accomplishments , but one of his talents is playing the piano . He began playing when he was 5 , and also plays the keyboard and drums .
“ I think it ’ s a gift that God gave me . It ’ s a gift I can spread to the world ,” Jordan said .
He also helps out at residential homes for those with mental disabilities , ages 18 to 60 , a business his parents own , and will work there this summer . He likes to play video games and watch “ Shark Tank ” and “ House Hunters ” with his family . Because of his love of numbers , Jordan plans to pursue accounting at Fresno State in the fall .
