About Uzueth : Growing up with a single mother in a tough community was difficult for Uzueth Ramirez Gallegos . Her mother did not have the skillset to contribute to her daughter ’ s educational needs and instead focused on trying to keep her child out of danger .
This upbringing inspired Uzueth to see she needed to change the path she was on to ensure a better future . She said she “ turned her life around ” and got into school activities , discovered a love for photography and writing and also gained a new mindset , which fueled her to do better academically , turning her 2.2 GPA into a 4.32 .
Now , Uzueth is looking forward to attending college at UC San Diego in the fall , where she will be majoring in biochemistry , with plans to go the pre-med route and eventually become a cardiologist .
She said her drive comes from her desire to become wealthy , in both happiness and financial security .
In her words : “ I ’ m motivated by becoming a better example for those who look up to me and allow them to see that anyone can do it , no matter where you ’ re from . As long as you have that want and drive you can go wherever you desire .”
From school counselor Elizabeth Aaron : “ Uzueth is an incredibly hard working , dedicated and empathetic student . When Uzueth puts her mind to something , she commits 100 % of her time and energy and will not stop until she meets her goal . Giving up has never been , and will never be , an option . Uzueth makes Edison a meaningful place for all , and we are proud to have her represent us .”
