About Ulysses : As the youngest of five children raised by a strong single mother , Ulysses Omar Diaz Vera understands what it means to work tirelessly for the family . He saw it daily when as a child , his mother would accompany him on two city buses every morning to barely make it to school on time . While his family often struggled financially , Ulysses ’ faith in God has never wavered . He is a model student and an admirable athlete — excelling in several advanced placement courses , shining bright as Roosevelt High School ’ s varsity football MVP and setting a school record for career rushing yards . Ulysses has created strong bonds with his peers and school staff that he will carry beyond his time at Roosevelt .
He ’ s been involved in many activities , including serving as president of a Bible study club , president of Beautify Fresno Club and president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes . He enjoys mentoring youth , working out , singing in his church choir and volunteering .
In his words : “ One of the greatest gifts that we have as humans is our mouth and tongue because it can either make or break you . Be the reason someone smiles today .”

They understand the importance of balancing their time and prioritize their responsibilities accordingly . They are also dedicated , disciplined and exhibit strong leadership qualities both on and off the field . Ulysses Diaz showcases all of it .”
